Barramundi Lures

Whether you’re casting into the snags of the Daly River, trolling the deep timber of Lake Monduran, or working the salt flats during the NT Build-up, your lure choice is the difference between a "boof" and a blank. Barramundi are apex ambush predators that demand lures with realistic profiles, erratic action, and tough durability.

Barramundi Lure FAQs

Barramundi are highly visual hunters. In clear water or bright sunlight, natural 'Match the Hatch' colors like silver and olive work best. In turbid water, high-contrast colors like Gold, Chartreuse, and Fluoro Pink are essential for the fish to track the lure.

Soft plastics are superior for fishing deep timber and mangroves as they can be rigged weedless. Hardbody lures are excellent for trolling or when you need consistent depth and a loud internal rattle to wake up sluggish fish in impoundments.

The 'Twitch and Pause' is king. Barramundi often strike on the pause. Give the lure two sharp jerks to simulate a wounded baitfish, then let it sit for 2–3 seconds. This suspension is usually when the 'boof' happens.

For trophy 'Metreies' in dams, 120mm to 200mm lures are the standard, like our Drunken Mullet or King Flick Prawn. In estuaries, matching the hatch with 80mm to 100mm prawn imitations is usually more effective.

Barramundi use a lateral line system to 'feel' movement. In low visibility or night fishing, lures with a heavy tail beat, erratic action, or internal rattles help fish pinpoint the target.
