Many trophy Cod are caught at night when they move into shallower water to hunt. Surface lures like the Smuggler or Drunken Mullet (slow-rolled) create a massive "V-Wake" and acoustic footprint that Cod can track in total darkness.
"Slower is better." Murray Cod are ambush hunters; they don't want to chase a fast-moving meal. A slow, rhythmic retrieve that keeps the lure in the strike zone as long as possible is key. The Cod Sniper is a fantastic "slow-wobble" lure for this exact reason.
Both work, but they serve different purposes. Hardbodies like the Cod Sniper are great for trolling or banging into rocks, while oversized soft swimbaits offer a more natural "sinuous" swimming action that can fool pressured fish in clear water.
